The game has changed! That breed of player who so often personifies the words "true guts" are few and far between nowadays. But if the footy ground is a battle field (and it is), then you would be the first to say, "I want Brent Cowell in my trench." Because he gives everything he has for his mates and then some more!
Whether it was a win or a loss, Brent could always hold his head high knowing he gave his best. The hard knocks, or the loss of blood were no concern to him, as long as he could do his best for his fellow Royals. This image from the 2001 Premiership shows that clearly. It is a precise reflection of Brent Cowell and how he will always be remembered, a gutsy mongrel with a true heart of gold, a classis "Growler"!
